SUBJECT:
Update on the City’s GreenSense Incentive Program funds.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On October 1, 2019, the City of Denton’s GreenSense Incentive Program started with a total
budget of $750,000; allocating $250,000 for energy efficiency rebates and $500,000 for solar
installations.
To date, the City has received 107 energy efficiency applications qualifying for $33,000 in rebates.
The City has also received 106 solar applications qualifying for $482,000 in rebates. The
remaining funds balance for energy efficiency is $217,000 and $18,000 for solar. Solar funds are
expected to be depleted by February 7, 2020.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Denton provides incentives for Denton Municipal Electric customers that perform
energy efficiency and conservation improvements in their homes and businesses through the
GreenSense Incentive Program.
Implemented in 2009, the Program started with a total budget of $180,000 which was exhausted
after one rooftop solar and 568 energy efficiency projects; it quickly grew in both scale and
funding.
