Date: January 13, 2017 Report No. 2017-004
INFORMAL STAFF REPORT
TO MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
SUBJECT:
Status on demolition of 301 East McKinney Former County Annex
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This report is provided at the request of Executive Staff following the November 7, 2016, City
Council Work Session in reference to the proposed demolition of the former County Annex
building located adjacent to City Hall.
BACKGROUND:
On December 13, 2016, Denton City Council approved a contract with Neighbors Demolition,
LLC, for the demolition of the former County Annex building. Nabors recently erected
construction fencing around the perimeter of the property and are scheduled to begin demolition
the week of January 16. The contractor will initiate the demolition process by removing internal
components such as the heating ventilation air conditioning components in the basement, as well
as plumbing and electrical components prior to demolition of the structural components. The
contractor will utilize the Denton Landfill and efforts will be employed to recycle as much of the
debris as possible.
The attachment to this report demonstrates the haul route, entering the site on the east and
departing on west side of the property using Oakland Street. Much effort will be given to
preserve and restore pavement utilized for access to the site as well as preserving some perimeter
parking. The remainder of the site will be restored with sod to augment various activities held at
City Hall, Quakertown Park and the Civic Center. The project is scheduled to be completed by
mid-March 2017. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at
