Definition: The Assistant Fire Chief/Emergency Services Division shall be appointed by the Fire Chief in accordance with State of Texas Civil Service law and/or applicable modifications
in the existing Meet and Confer agreement. Responsible to oversee the Emergency Services Division to include the Operations Section and other section(s) as assigned by the Fire Chief.
Work involves planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising staff involved in such all mission areas of emergency response and support program management as assigned. The position
continuously evaluates Division/ Section performance and effects changes in equipment, methods, processes, and training within the limits of delegated authority or recommends changes
to the Fire Chief. Work in this classification depends on senior leadership and managerial skill, sound judgment, collaboration, strong communication skills, and effective decision-making.
The Emergency Services Assistant Fire Chief is a member of the Fire Department’s Senior Leadership Team and represents the Fire Chief and the Fire Department’s policies and procedures
to all employees.
Essential Functions:
Serves as a member of the Fire Department Senior Leadership Team
Builds and maintains effective relations with other Department Division(s)
Supervises entire DFD in accordance with policies and procedures
Assists in the development of the Department’s budget
Enforces laws and ordinances
Builds and maintains constructive relationships with mutual aid organizations
Builds and maintains constructive relationships other City departments
Evaluates and recommends improvements to continually update emergency operational procedures
Ensures that policies, procedures, and processes are designed, evaluated, and monitored for safe and healthy operations
Initiates and participates in meetings with civic and service organizations and promotes good community relations
Responds appropriately and timely to City Management and Council and makes professional presentations as necessary
Maintains positive, respectful, and cooperatively relationships with peers, subordinates, and supervisors
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease response times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service
Additional Duties:

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Five years of experience performing progressively responsible duties related to the essential functions of the position and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Fire
Science or related field
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must possess Fire Operations certifications
Must be able to respond after normal working hours as necessary in emergency and non-emergency situations
Section(s) assigned to the Emergency Services/Assistant Chief may change at any time at the discretion for the Fire Chief
The Emergency Services /Assistant Chief and the Fire Marshal/Assistant Chief and any future Assistant Chief may be rotated at any time at the discretion of the Fire Chief

National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer certification
Fire Prevention certifications
Fire Operations certifications
Paramedic certification
FEMA Emergency Management certification
Models Department commitment to health and fitness
