DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for assisting with the supervision of day camp activities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plans, organizes, and implements various recreational related activities for children and teens
Leads, supervises, and conducts classes, activities, and special events
Must be able to properly supervise children and respond immediately in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary
Follow appropriate training and lead small group activities in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and recreational experiences
Maintain a clean and orderly environment for children
Assist in the enforcement of program rules
Maintain discipline and enforce proper safety precautions
Administer medication and maintain medical records and logs
Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities
Model and maintain high ethical standards
Must be able to safely drive a 15-passenger van and transport children to various locations daily
Ensure all equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition.
Maintains attendance records, discipline, and injury records as needed
Enforce all site and State regulations
May be required to lift up to heavy items
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years or older
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of a variety of recreational day camp activities and the ability to convey that knowledge into an organized recreational activity
Knowledge of childhood development
Basic skills in performing and instructing such activities as arts and crafts, sports, games, and creative dramatics, etc.
Ability to maintain discipline
Ability to prepare and maintain reports
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, guardians, children and co-workers
Ability to motivate children
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) with reliable transportation to travel from site to site
Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, social security verification, and criminal history background check
Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by May 15, 2021
Must be able to obtain Defensive Driving certificate by May 15, 2021
Must be able to work June 1 – August 6, 2021
Must be able to work Monday -Friday with shift varying within the 7am to 6pm hours

ust be available for various trainings during the time period of May 15-28
Must work citywide special event (July 4th)
Must be able to work intense schedule June 5 - thru July 4, 2021
PREFERENCES:
Completion of one year of college (prefer coursework emphasizing education, childhood development, or recreation studies)
Three months of full time experience or 6 months part time experience planning, coordinating, and implementing recreation programs for school age groups
Previous experience working in a camp setting
Knowledge of a variety of recreational day camp activities and the ability to convey that knowledge into organized recreational activities

The essential functions of this position require the use of driving a 15-passenger van.
