Job Description
Responsible for the scheduling, training, and supervising of swim instructors and/or leading swim classes for a wide variety of age groups/skill levels. Schedules private lessons/semi
private lessons, keeps session attendance records, and assists with other programming offered through the City of Denton aquatics.
Essential Functions
Facilitates swimming classes and private lessons to a wide variety of age groups/skill levels
May be responsible for assisting with the scheduling, training and supervision of swim instructors
Performs record keeping tasks including the completion and issue of certificates to participants at the completion of courses, attendance records, and private lesson forms
Is available for office hours to assist LTS Coordinator outside of group lesson hours
Assists with supervision and evaluation of swim instructors
Assists in resolving customer and staff concerns regarding swim lessons & private lessons and other programming
Assists in scheduling swim instructors for group lessons & private lessons and other programming
Addresses customer concerns involving aquatic programming immediately
Assists with the facilitation of all aquatic programming outside of group lessons including kayaking classes, Aquatic Explorer Camp, Family Fun Nights, and others as assigned
Cleaning the pool deck of toys and debris before and after all aquatic classes
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned
Transfers attendance records into CLASS for monthly report
Fills in for instructors when needed
Posts patron notification of areas closing due to classes
Responds to inclement weather and upholds facility policy concerning delays or cancellation of classes

Minimum Qualifications
Must be 17 years or older
Be able to demonstrate American Red Cross' Learn to Swim skills and/or knowledge
Previous supervisory experience
Prior experience teaching swim lessons (both group and private)
Current Water Safety Instructor through the American Red Cross
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions

Conditions of Employment
Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must be able to work overtime when requested
Must enroll in Direct Deposit program with the City of Denton
Must be available to work Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Hold current Lifeguarding Training and First Aid, CPR/Professional Rescuer, and Oxygen Administration certifications through the American Red Cross
Prior 2 years experience as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
Candidate is familiar with basic pool chemical testing and/or holds current AFO or CPO certification(s)
Candidate is familiar with program operations at Denton ISD Natatorium, Water Works Park, and Civic Center Pool
Preference will be given to candidates who have extensive teaching history as a WSI and/or with other aquatic programs
Experience coaching swim teams
Experience teaching adapted learning courses for disabilities
