Title: GIS Technician (PT)

Report to: GIS & Applications Supervisor
FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt
Definition: The GIS Technician works under the supervision of the GIS & Application Supervisor. This position performs technical GIS functions including but not limited to, editing
and maintaining data layers, generating maps, data collection, and performing data analyses.
Essential Functions:
Provides excellent customer service while responding to both internal and external daily mapping requests
Completes GIS data entry, data validation and assists with the maintenance of current GIS databases.
Edits and maintains existing datasets in an enterprise geodatabase.
Generates maps for internal and external customers.
Creates features and verifies legal descriptions using coordinate geometry.
Assists users with problem resolution
Uses ArcMap and other necessary ArcGIS tools to maintain Geodatabases
Works under routine supervision where the supervisor occasionally reviews work to ensure completion
Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or a closely related field
AND
Two (2) years of experience utilizing spatial data
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Core Competencies:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to pay attention to detail to maintain and enter data in a GIS database
Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history background check
Must be able to work overtime when requested
Preferences:
Municipal government experience
Proficiency in ESRI products and GIS databases
Experience with ArcMap tools such as Geocoding, Georeferencing, and Advanced Editing experience
Bilingual in Spanish and English
GIS certification
