Energy Market Analyst - EP6203 - ENERGY MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION City of Denton Job Description  Title: Energy Market Analyst Position ID: EP6203 Department/Division: Electric/Power Supply Administration Reports to: Energy Market Manager FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Under supervision of the Energy Market Manager, responsible for analyses of short term and long term ERCOT energy markets. Essential Job Functions: As an individual contributor, under supervision, participates with members of the energy management function in delivering reliable wholesale energy supplies to Denton Municipal Electric at competitive prices, which includes analysis of short-term and long-term load serving requirements Uses market tools to analyze the ERCOT wholesale energy market consisting of complex programs and algorithms Performs analysis of future market impacts due to proposed Nodal Protocol Revision Requests (NPRR) Understands the fundamentals of energy market modeling, energy analytics, and back-cast analysis. Familiarity with ERCOT’s Nodal Protocols and financial settlement concepts Familiarity with the principles of designing, constructing, and implementing dashboard screens that inform the Day Ahead and Real Time desk of current market conditions As an individual contributor, under supervision, participates as a team member with the development and implementation of DME’s wholesale energy operating strategies, inclusive of scheduling and bidding Performs complex analyses to project market trends based on current and future market conditions and operations Designs, develops, implements, and maintains complex analyses that includes analysis from database queries via finished products/web publications As an individual contributor, under supervision, assists with presentations and backup documentation, as needed, for various City of Denton and Denton Municipal Electric boards, commissions, and councils As an individual contributor, under supervision, participates as a team member in decisions that may have financial impacts on DME As an individual contributor, under supervision, conducts research, provides technical expertise, and participates in ERCOT market design and development processes Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Engineering with 5 years of previous work experience in the ERCOT market, 2 years of which should be in the wholesale market (Zonal or Nodal) OR A Master’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Engineering with 3 years of previous work experience in the ERCOT market, 1 year of which should be in the wholesale market (Zonal or Nodal) OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Competencies: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed Knowledge of wholesale fuel, electric markets and evolving industry and regulatory developments in ERCOT Knowledge of systems used to forecast, evaluate and transact business in the wholesale fuel and energy markets Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances governing fuel and energy markets Skill in planning, organizing, and managing multiple complex projects concurrently Skill in oral and written communication Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing work Skill in using computers and related software applications Skill in data analysis and problem solving Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events Thorough understanding of technical requirements for electric system operations and planning Operation of the following equipment: Personal computer with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations), and Microsoft Outlook email system Excellent organizational skills with the ability to apply them to activities tracking, documentation and project management Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently to cope with many deadlines Ability to demonstrate energy market knowledge and analysis capabilities through a pre-employment screening examination Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Preferences: Proven track record of performing highly complex analytics in energy markets Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
