Risk Control Analyst - EP6204 - POWER SUPPLY ADMINISTRATION City of Denton Job Description  Title: Risk Control Analyst Position ID: EP6204 Department/Division: Electric/Power Supply Administration Reports to: Energy Services & Business Development Manager FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Under supervision of the Energy Services & Business Development Manager, responsible for monitoring, validating, and confirming all electric energy management activities to ensure compliance with DME's energy and risk management policies, procedures, and processes. Essential Job Functions: As an individual contributor, under supervision, monitors compliance with energy/risk management policies, procedures, processes, and performs regular audits Reviews and validates historical price curves used for daily risk reporting and portfolio analysis Under supervision, develops, modifies, and implements computer models used in calculating risk management performance indicators including but not limited to portfolio market-to-market, Value at Risk, P&L, and option valuation Under supervision, develops models for automation of risk control processes and functions using various advanced software applications Applies new technologies to improve risk control processes and reporting systems. Provides support in the evaluation and selection of risk control and ERCOT settlement software. Researches and advises on alternative technical solutions to risk control related issues Uses statistical modeling to track, evaluate, and report third party credit standings Works closely with Energy Market Operators to reconcile positions and align risk management strategies with short and mid-term market conditions As an individual contributor, under supervision, assists with new risk calculations and evaluates risk model assumptions. Provides accounting support for wholesale power, fuel, and financial transactions As an individual contributor, under supervision, monitors contracts for risk management activity to ensure compliance for DME As an individual contributor, under supervision, conducts research, provides technical expertise, and participates in the ERCOT market design and development process Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or in a field related to the position with 5 years of related work experience OR A Master’s Degree in a related field or a CPA may be substituted for two (2) years of related work experience Competencies: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed Knowledge of energy trading activities and associated risks Knowledge of energy risk management tools Knowledge of utility regulation and deregulation issues Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances governing fuel and energy markets Knowledge of ERCOT market rules and regulations Skill in oral and written communication Knowledge of industry standard fuel and energy trading agreements Skill in using computers and related software applications Skill in data analysis and problem solving Ability Skill in analyzing financial and statistical reports priorities Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events Skill in the operation of the following equipment: Personal computer with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations), and Microsoft Outlook email system Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Preferences: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
