Definition: Responsible for oversight, development, coordination, and administration of business development, energy programs, special projects, key accounts, and legislative and regulatory
functions for Denton Municipal Electric. These efforts will result in increased utility revenue, higher property values and property tax revenue, create new employment opportunities
and aid in preserving the local control of the electric utility.
Essential Functions:
Manages energy programs, special projects, key accounts, business development, legislative and regulatory affairs
Trains, supervises, and provides direction to Energy Programs & Key Accounts Administrator, and Energy Services Business Analyst
Serves as alternative Public Information Officer
Develops and administers DME's business development programs
Develops and coordinates DME web sites with other economic development web sites
Assists in the negotiation of key contracts
Promotes both economic and business development growth by identifying opportunities and developing targeted recruitment of large companies or developers considering investment in a facility
or development in Denton
Develops and produces branding and marketing materials to promote Denton and Denton Municipal Electric for large industrial and manufacturing customer recruitment
Develops and maintains positive relationships with key economic development allies, including but not limited to, private sector investors, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development,
Dallas Regional Chamber, and national, regional, and local real estate brokers and land developers
Represents Denton Municipal Electric (DME) at various community and civic functions (Council Breakfast, Chamber of Commerce functions, business retention visits, etc.); proposes strategies
and presents policies
Makes technical presentations at a variety of levels including City Council, Public Utilities Board, the Economic Development Partnership Board
Manages projects as deemed necessary by the Energy Services & Generation Division Manager to ensure the continued success of DME’s long and short-term vision
Reviews State and Federal legislation to determine impact on DME pertaining to electric utility business, business development activities, local community development programs and activities;
prepares comments regarding City’s support or opposition; reviews community development policies and procedures of other municipalities
Works with City of Denton Economic Development office and the Chamber of Commerce to facilitate recruitment activities
Serves as primary point of contact to the City of Denton Public Information Office
Additional Duties:

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing or related field; plus
Six years of progressively responsible experience in the electric industry, business development, or equivalent professional experience including supervisory experience
OR
Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field; plus
Four years of progressively responsible experience in the electric industry, business development, or equivalent professional experience including supervisory experience
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required
