Lineman - E73005 - ELECTRIC OPERATIONS AND MAINT.Journey City of Denton Job Description Title: Lineman Steps are: A & B Position ID: E73005-600200 Department/Division: Electric Construction OR Electric Operations and Maintenance Reports to: Construction Foreman OR Operations Foreman FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: Yes Definition: Responsible for assisting the Journeyman Lineman in constructing, energizing and maintaining electric distribution & transmission system for the City of Denton citizens and DME customers. Essential Functions: Learn to safely work on primary voltage (>600 volts) with direct supervision Safely works on secondary voltage (<600 volts) without direct supervision Learn to safely install or remove transformers and energized parts on energized circuits with direct supervision Learn to trouble shoot minor and major problems on distribution system with supervision Learn to climbs poles and works at elevated heights Responsible for their personal safety and the safety of their field work team Learn to safely inspect, maintain, and operate motorized equipment used in distribution construction Develops troubleshooting skills using voltmeters, amp meters and other related testing devices Becomes familiar with the Feeder Routes from the substations Maintains reasonable telephone contact with department representatives at all hours as necessary Works with distribution customers and contractors in a cooperative and cost-effective manner Portrays a positive image for the City of Denton and the Electric Department to employees, customers, developers, contractors and the general public Learn to check out materials from the warehouse using the JDE financial system Follows all appropriate City of Denton and DME policies and procedures Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School diploma or GED equivalent Minimum Two years of electric utility experience Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to read, interpret, and construct new electric facilities from engineering blue prints or job work orders and document any and all adjustments that were necessary and approved to complete the project Ability to perform electric utility construction and maintenance work safely on the electric distribution and transmission system in Denton Ability to follow feeder route switching orders Ability to operate laptop computer for mapping, redlining, time keeping, and job orders Ability to complete job orders and other paper work in timely manner Ability to help train Groundman Ability to read and follow engineering projects, work orders, and blue prints Demonstrated ability to get along with customers and co-workers Ability to learn CPR, First Aid and ability to perform pole top and bucket truck rescue and to follow approved DME safety rules and regulations. Ability to read, understand, and follow departmental safety rules and safe work procedures Ability to work courteously with other employees and customers Ability to climb poles and work at heights greater than 30 feet Ability to work within enclosed spaces Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Class “A” CDL driver’s license Conditions of Employment: Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must obtain a Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes and be responsible for call when your name comes up on rotation list Applicants must be available to be on stand-by and work emergency call-outs Ability to work standby every fifth week Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
