Title: Metering/Communications Superintendent

Definition: Responsible for managing the daily operations of metering, communications, and special projects including budgetary issues.
Essential Job Functions:
Manages Electric Metering functions and Metering Reading operations
Manages the DME role on construction projects
Provides intensive accredited employee training
Maintains and enforces safety programs for subordinates
Identifies power quality issues, monitors equipment tampering and conducts load studies
Manages and maintains the reliability of all electric revenue meter
Provides customer load information
Interviews and hires finalist in the selection process
Conducts performance appraisals, approves leaves, recommends promotions, demotion, transfers and reclassification of employees within the unit
Prepares the divisional budget and capital improvement projects
Maintains a partnership and harmonious relationship with utility vendor
Continually updates equipment and procedures relating to good metering practices
May be required to engage in national or local technical and instructional speaking forums before large groups

Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
U. S. D. O. L. Accredited Education associated with metering or similar program
Six to eight years of experience in installation and maintenance of Electric metering equipment, which should include two years of experience in supervision of Electric Metering personnel
Competencies:
Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
Ability to research and develop projects dealing with new designs within communications technology and implement them into the existing infrastructure
Knowledge of fiber optic cable including installation, maintenance and repair including splicing and cable preparation
Comprehensive understanding of all types of RF communications including an extensive knowledge of 700/800 MHz trunked radio systems
Proficient at computers and computer software, DOS, Windows, Spreadsheets, and Databases, etc.
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Prior experience in a municipal government electric utility department
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
