Definition: Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, budgeting and scheduling the operation, maintenance, construction and NERC Compliance of the electric Substation/Transmission system
and the SCADA System for the DME
Essential Job Functions:
Plans, schedules, and monitors the work of technically skilled crews in Substation/Transmission for the City of Denton
Overseeing the construction of Substations and the commissioning of a new station
Responsible for the installation of ground grids, fencing, concrete work, site preparation, manholes, exit feeders, control cable, transformers, breakers, switches, CT’s, PT’s, control
buildings, bus, steel work, metering, fiber optics, and SCADA
Coordinates breaker maintenance, testing, change outs and additions (NERC Compliance)
Coordinates relay maintenance, testing, change outs and additions (NERC Compliance)
Coordinates and schedules transformer maintenance, testing, change outs and additions (NERC Compliance)
Oversees SCADA maintenance, upgrades and meeting the requirements needed to be compliant with ERCOT and NERC
Responsible for battery maintenance (NERC Compliance)
Oversees security for the stations (NERC Compliance)
Requisitions supplies and maintains material consumption for substations
Maintains records for daily and monthly reports
Oversee the operations and maintenance of three Cooper Reclosers out on the Distribution lines
Oversee the operations of eight Automatic Transfer Switches on Distribution lines
Oversee the operations of two SCADA Mates Switches on Distribution lines
Oversee the operation and maintenance of three Siemens Regulators
Coordinate switching with System Operators (DME, Garland, Brazos, and ERCOT)
Coordinates, oversees, and schedules any contractors working in a DME Substation
Enforces the departments’ safety program
Instructs subordinates in specific work techniques to assure tasks are accomplished in a safe, efficient manner
Counsels subordinates, resolves informal complaints and grievances, and takes necessary disciplinary action in accordance with City policies
Maintains telephone contact with department representatives and responds to emergencies as necessary
Forecast personnel, equipment, material and supply requirements in connection with development of the annual budget and CIP
Prioritizes and assigns daily crew activities
Handles customer complaints, including direct interface with customers
Makes presentations at meetings
Interviews prospective employees and makes final selections of employees; recommends promotions, demotions, and reclassifications; approves leaves and conducts performance appraisals
of subordinate employees
Coaches and teaches technical skills
Ability to get along with customers and co-workers

Minimum Qualifications:
Ten years of experience working in the electric substation/transmission for a utility. Three of which include supervisory experience in operations
Associate Degree
Acceptable Equivalency:
Ten years of experience in the electric utility field directly related to substations/transmission
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “A” Driver’s License prior to employment
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history check
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Proficient in the use of a computer
At least two years of college
Experience in a municipal government electric utility department
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
