Maintenance Mechanic - ET0606 - DENTON ENERGY CENTER City of Denton Job Description Title: Denton Energy Center Maintenance Mechanic Position ID: ET0606 Department/Division: Electric/Denton Energy Center Reports to: Denton Energy Center Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for Mechanical Maintenance activities of all related Power Plant Equipment as assigned. Essential Functions: Completes repair and replacement of valves, bearings, components, repairs system leaks, lubricates equipment, changes and cleans filters, aligns components and drivers Conducts general industrial maintenance, housekeeping, training and troubleshooting of mechanical systems Follows and complies with the Plant Safety Procedures and the Plant LOTO or (Lock-out Tag-out System) at all times. Ensures LOTO (Lock-out / Tag-out) system compliance at all times Supporting the Maintenance and Operational readiness of the Generation Facility under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor Documents all work activities as directed by the Mechanical Supervisor Follows training plans as assigned and directed Performs troubleshooting and documentation, and assist in the resolution of problems Works with the CMMS system to ensure precise input of items as required Follows and/or provides precise detailed instructions for crews as required Represents the plant’s best interest at all times Maintains alertness in working environment for possible hazards Interprets Plant & Equipment Manuals for precise maintenance activities Performs mechanical assemblies and dis-assemblies, valve packing, lubrication, and other general maintenance activities Assesses individual job requirements for safety at all times Completes work orders and other assignments as required Maintains regular and punctual attendance Additional Duties: Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals Work with other Departments and personnel as required for Plant betterment Provides input and documentation for parts, tools, and safety equipment as needed Assists in Contractor Supervision during planned and unplanned outages and/or other plant requirements Inspects parts received for quality, damage, and general condition May be required to perform welding duties and should be familiar with MIG / TIG / Brazing / and stick type welding. Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. 2 years of Industrial Mechanical Maintenance in one of the related fields such as Millwright, Welding, Pipefitting, Boiler Maker, etc. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work overtime when requested Must be able to respond to plant abnormal situations, alarms, and emergencies Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Prior 5 years of Electric Generating Facility experience. Knowledge in Welding, Millwright Work, Lubrications, Hydraulics, Valves, Parts, Tools and other items related to the industry and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of equipment isolation and tagging procedures. Thorough knowledge of the location, purpose and proper use of the plant safety equipment, including firefighting techniques. Experience in CMMS systems and work item tracking and reporting.
