Electric Engineering Intern - ET0607 - ENERGY MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION City of Denton Job Description Title: Electric Engineering Intern - Distribution Engineering Position ID: ET0607 Department/Division: Denton Municipal Electric/Distribution Engineering Report to: Division Engineering Manager, Distribution FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Under supervision of the Division Engineering Manager, or as delegated to the Electric Engineering Supervisor or an Engineer V, utilizes a broad knowledge of engineering, financial, and research principles and practices to perform a variety of support functions to the Distribution Engineering Organization. Essential Functions: Performs basic analysis on distribution system data related to project management, materials, procurement, and standards. Assists with the development of technical reports and analysis by performing research, gathering applicable and supporting data, performing basic data analysis, preparing reports, and utilizing computer models. These reports may require thorough detailed research to support recommendations. Supports analytical data gathering through internal databases, external data sources, and computer applications that supports all aspects of electric distribution engineering. As an individual contributor, under supervision, performs repetitive and routine tasks accurately, such as updating reports, updating models, and reviewing engineering reports, etc. Utilizes teamwork concepts and ability to get along cordially with co-workers. Performs various administrative tasks as required. Familiar with, or capable to learn, advanced Microsoft Office products functionality such as VBA code modifications and execution of models. Incumbent may participate in cross-training with other departments. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of 15 hours of college or trade school credit in a related field such as; Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or other technical field directly applicable to the electric utility industry. Currently enrolled in an ABET Accredited University studying Engineering. Core Competencies: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Skill in oral and written communications. Must be self-motivated, take ownership of job responsibilities, and be pro-active in seeking solutions for the department. Skill in data analysis and problem solving. Operation of the following equipment: Personal computer with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (applications for work processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations), and Microsoft Outlook email system. Strong computational and analytical background. Experience in preparing written reports and documents. Experience in performing repetitive and redundant tasks. Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver license within 30 days of hire per state law.) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check. Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Hours towards an Electric Engineering degree is preferred; however, consideration will also be given to Civil or Mechanical Engineering college credits. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
