Meter Services Technician I - EL0404 - ELECTRIC METERING OPERATIONS City of Denton Job Description  Title: Meter Service Technician I Position ID: EL0404 Department/Division: Electric/Metering Operations Reports to: Meter Data & Billing Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for accurately reading the water and electric meters on a designated route Essential Job Functions: Walks and/or drives vehicle to assigned route and accurately reads electrical demands, probes water and compound meter dials Checks meters to determine if they are functioning properly and fills out necessary documents indicating meter irregularities for the Service Department Cleans meter dials and meter boxes that are filled with dirt or water Records meter readings for major customer accounts and special accounts Works “hi-lo,” customer requests, high priorities, etc. Recognizes and reports meter tampering for both water and electric meter Maintains good reading order of all assigned routes Trains in turning on and off electric and water meters and installing right-angle adapters Maintains regular and punctual attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalent Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work overtime when requested Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business) Must attend a skills assessment prior to employment Must be able to work in all types of weather Must be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; some Saturdays and overtime Must be available for on-call rotation at DME Pole Yard Preferences: Prior meter reading experience Prior experience working outdoors Bilingual in Spanish and English Computer knowledge Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
