Definition: Responsible for accurately reading the water and electric meters on a designated route
Essential Job Functions:
Walks and/or drives vehicle to assigned route and accurately reads and probes electrical demands, water and compound meter dials
Checks meters to determine if they are functioning properly and codes necessary documents indicating meter irregularities for the servicing departments
Cleans meter dials and meter boxes that are filled with dirt or water
Records meter readings for major customer accounts and special accounts
Works “hi-lo,” customer requests, high priorities, etc.
Recognizes and reports meter tampering for both water and electric meter
Maintains good reading order of all assigned routes
Safely performs disconnects and reconnects electric and water meters and installing right-angle adapters
Capable of performing the job functions of the Meter Services Technician (field service)
Performs routine inspections of vehicle, and logs the results
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
At least one year of experience connecting or disconnecting utilities or reading meters
High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance (evaluate per position)
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history background check and social security number verification
Must pass a physical examination
Must be able to work overtime when requested
Must be able to respond to location within 30 minutes of being called
Must abide by the safety rules and work procedures of the DME Hazard Recognition Program and APPA Safety Manual
Must be able to work Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm; some Saturdays and overtime
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Prior Electric Metering field service experience
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Computer knowledge
