Definition: Responsible for constructing, energizing and maintaining electric distribution system for the City of Denton citizens and DME customers.
Essential Functions:
Directs and leads the electric utility construction work crews in the safe construction and maintenance of the electric distribution and transmission system in Denton
Works with electric engineering on new construction projects and job order drawings and material lists
Schedules and arranges for all State of Texas required underground one-call locates in advance of project work occurring
Constructs all projects in accordance with the electrical engineering job projects and drawings and works with engineering to find solutions to any unforeseen field changes
Notes and completes all end of project redline as-built drawings and documentation for engineering and GIS use and master repository functions
Enforces departmental safety adherence to City and DME safety rules and regulations and instructs team members on proper work procedures
Readily available and willing to perform periodic overtime work and will maintains reasonable contact to keep department, system operators and management up to date on project statuses
or any items of concern
Portrays a positive image to employees, customers, developers, contractors and the general public at all times
Performs other duties normally assigned to other work team members in their absence
Troubleshoots the electric system and makes needed repairs in a safe and cost-effective manner
Requests materials and supplies that are necessary to safe construct and perform their daily and project functions
Works closely with the Line Manager to interview prospective job candidates and make recommendations to select the most qualified applicant
Constantly updates and keeps supervisor informed of crews activity and provides weekly reports
Completes employee Performance Evaluation assessments including any required IDP and status sheet updates or adjustments
Follows and applies appropriate City of Denton and DME corrective disciplinary actions when needed
Will mentor and assist Ground Technicians through Journeyman Lineman, making sure that they progress through the Department of Labor approved lineman apprenticeship program in a timely
manner
May substitute for the Line Manager at times and as needed
Effectively works with electric distribution customers, developers, and contractors both internal and external to schedule and safely construct all electric facilities in a timely and
efficient manner
Demonstrates computer and software proficiency on the City of Denton and DME software packages used
Assist with providing presentations at Department, City and Public meetings as requested
Demonstrated ability to respectfully get along with customers and co-workers
Demonstrates CPR, First Aid and ability to perform pole top and bucket truck rescue and to follow all DME and APPA safety rules and regulations
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Ten years of electric utility experience with at least 5 years as a journeyman
Completion of a valid 4-year Lineman Apprenticeship program that is recognized by the US Department of labor or the equivalent
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Ability to read, interpret, and construct new electric facilities from engineering blue prints or job work orders and document any and all adjustments that were necessary and approved
to complete the project
Ability to direct and lead the electric utility construction work crews in the safe construction and maintenance of the electric distribution and transmission system in Denton
Ability to read, understand, and follow departmental safety rules and safe work procedures
Ability to work courteously with other employees and customers
Ability to climb poles and work at heights greater than 30 feet
Ability to work within enclosed spaces
Ability to lead others in job related matters

Bilingual in Spanish and English
Conditions of Employment:
Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license
and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification
Must have a Texas Class A CDL driver’s license
Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes and be responsible for call when your name comes up on rotation list
Applicants must be available to be on stand-by and work emergency call-outs
