Operations Supervisor - E75104 - ELECTRIC OPERATIONS AND MAINT. Contract Coordinator City of Denton Job Description Title: Operations Supervisor Position ID: E75104-600200 Department/Division: Electric Operations and Maintenance Reports to: Operations Line Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: Yes Definition: Responsible for coordinating all work assignments performed by assigned City of Denton contractors. Essential Functions: Supervises the activities of 3 separate contractors and has some oversight of the Contracts themselves: Overhead Construction Contract, Underground Services Contract, and Directional Boring, and Dry Auger Boring Safely leads the contractors in the construction and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution system Enforces department safety programs and instructs the contractors in proper work procedures Works with distribution customers, developers and contractors in an efficient manner Ability to make decisions, at a moment’s notice, with the City’s best interest in mind Reads blue prints for the jobs and turns in an “as built” when jobs are complete Keeps Line Superintendent informed of Contractor’s activity in a bi-weekly meeting Requests supplies and maintains records for contractors and City crews Receives invoices and processes them through the Inventory Control Specialist Reconciles invoices and materials lists before completion of projects by Contractors Evaluate Bids and Requests For Proposal, assisting with the awarding of contracts in accordance with the City of Denton’s best value criteria Substitutes for the Line Superintendent as needed Maintains reasonable telephone contact with departmental representatives at all hours as necessary Performs other duties normally assigned to other work team members in their absence Troubleshoots the electric system and makes needed repairs in a cost-effective manner Assists crews and other departments when needed Portrays a positive image to employees, customers, developers, contractors and the general public Demonstrates computer proficiency Makes presentations at Department, City and Public meetings as requested Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Ability to get along with customers and co-workers Demonstrates CPR, First Aid and the ability to apply all safety rules Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalent Ten years of electric utility experience with at least 5 years as a journeyman Completion of a valid 4-year Lineman Apprenticeship program that is recognized by the US Department of labor or the equivalent OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to read, interpret, and construct new electric facilities from engineering blue prints or job work orders and document any and all adjustments that were necessary and approved to complete the project Ability to direct and lead the electric utility construction work crews in the safe construction and maintenance of the electric distribution and transmission system in Denton Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Conditions of Employment: Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must obtain a Texas Class A CDL driver’s license within 60 days of employment Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes and be responsible for call when your name comes up on rotation list Ability to read, understand, and follow departmental safety rules and safe work procedures Ability to work courteously with other employees and customers Ability to climb poles and work at heights greater than 30 feet Ability to work within enclosed spaces Ability to lead others in job related matters Applicants must be available to be on stand-by and work emergency call-outs Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
