Definition: Responsible for performing field inspections related to all phases of building construction for compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and ordinances
Essential Functions:
Performs Certificate of Occupancy inspections on existing buildings
Maintains, records, and submits daily inspection reports including in electronic formats
Performs daily inspections relating to the model building codes as adopted by the City of Denton in a fast-paced high growth environment
Inspects all life safety aspects of new and remodeled commercial and residential structures regardless of size, including, but not limited to: Certificate of Occupancies, and citizen
and tenant complaints
Inspects all aspects of multi-family structures
Performs irrigation inspections
Reads, interprets, and explains adopted building codes and City ordinances
Reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications
Assists building professionals and citizens with questions regarding building regulations
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Two (2) years of building inspection or plan review experience (an electrical license or plumbing license will substitute for two years of experience).
The following Model Code Certifications: State of Texas licensed Plumbing Inspector, Residential Energy Inspector / Plans Examiner, Commercial Energy Inspector, and Commercial Building
Inspector.

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Core Competencies:
Knowledge of the International Building Codes and the National Electrical Code
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to maintain professional behavior with customers and co-workers
Preferences:
Master or Journeyman Electrical license
Master or Journeyman Plumbing license
State of Texas Mechanical class A or B Contractor’s License
Experience in a skilled trade (framing, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical)
Ability to speak Spanish
Conditions of Employment:
Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license
and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must pass a physical examination
Must be available for on-call duty
Must be able to work overtime when requested
Preferences:
