Crew Leader - GL0803 - WATER PARK City of Denton Job Description  Title: Crew Leader Position ID: GL0803 Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Aquatic Maintenance Reports to: Aquatic Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: Yes Definition: Responsible for leading Aquatic Maintenance Crews in maintaining, repairing and upkeep of the City of Denton owned Aquatic Center – Natatorium/Water Works Park, Civic Center Pool and general park areas. These areas include all swimming pools, building maintenance, landscape and irrigation. Essential Job Functions: Oversees the methods, equipment, materials, tools (including computers and applicable software) and standard practices for the design, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of City of Denton owned aquatic facilities and general park areas. Reads blueprints and plans, inspects finished jobs, including final the inspection and walk through and submits recommendations on field site adjustments Ensures the healthfulness of the pool water chemistry at each facility; interprets chemical tests and calculates the Calcium Saturation Index of all swimming pools and makes adjustments as necessary; calibrates and standardizes chemical control computers. Analyzes water chemistry data logs from the swimming pool controllers and adjusts feed rates to ensure pool chemistry is maintained per the standards of Texas Department Health Codes regulations Maintains accurate records of maintenance for the pools, equipment, building, and landscape major repairs Serves as the liaison between employees and manager, reporting concerns/issues of employees and interpreting/translating messages from the supervisor Calculates materials, acquires competitive quotes, submits requests and makes recommendations for budgeting needs Monitors, reviews and maintains budget line items pertaining to the landscape areas. Monitors job performance standards and safety procedures practiced by crew in the field Create and monitor pre-summer project list for seasonal employees – Maintenances, Pool Managers, lifeguards staff Conduct interviews, performance appraisals, disciplining, etc. for staff May operate heavy, complex equipment and is responsible for training of subordinate staff in the use of lifts, ditching machine, front end loader, backhoe, etc. Responds to after hour call-outs for emergency repairs for pools, building, landscape, storm damage, ice and snow removal/control Assists supervisor in planning, scheduling and supervising the work of subordinates; inspects activities of the crew to ensure appropriate and timely completion of projects Assists in training subordinates in the best and safest methods of accomplishing tasks, primarily through on-the-job instruction or individual instruction Prepares reports such as monthly reports, spreadsheets, after hour call log sheets and work orders; daily time sheets and evaluation of subordinates May assume the duties and responsibilities of the Aquatic Maintenance Supervisor In their absence Maintains congenial and effective relationships with customers and co-workers Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: High school diploma or GED equivalent Five years of progressively responsible experience in commercial swimming pool maintenance, plant operations, commercial ground maintenance work and heavy equipment operation, with at least 1 year working in a lead or supervisory capacity Core Competencies: Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Knowledge and understanding of commercial pool water chemistry, advanced swimming pool chemical controller automation, basic water hydraulics, mechanical systems, filtration systems, circulation systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), heating systems, medium pressure UV systems, DECTRON dehumidification system, and safe electrical practices. Ability to maintain or repair commercial pool water heaters and boilers, large commercial pool pumps, calibrate and standardize chemical control computers, and HVAC systems, Ability to interpret chemical tests, data logs and calculate the Calcium Saturation Index of all swimming pools and makes chemical level adjustments as necessary Ability to understand and make adjustments to Building Management Software (Inet) Ability to prepare and present various reports using appropriate software Ability to supervisor and coordinate the work of subordinate employees Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to follow safety rules and regulations Knowledge of fertilizers, pesticides, turf, shrubs, trees, and ornamentals that are adapted to North Central Texas Ability to move or lift objects of 50lbs. or more, as necessary Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must have or be able to obtain a Class “A” CDL with air brake endorsements within 6 months of employment Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Noncommercial Pesticide License within 12 months of employment Must be able to work in all kinds of weather Must have a current Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool operator (CPO) Certification within 6 months of employment. Must be able to lift objects of 50 lbs. or more, as necessary Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Three or more years of prior supervisory skills (leadership and organizational skills) Basic computer skills.
