Electronic Technician II - GT0906 - WATER - PRODUCTION City of Denton Job Description  Title: Electronic Technician II Position ID: GT0906 Department/Division: Utilities / Water Reclamation Report to: Foreman FLSA Designation: Non-exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and calibration of the communication systems, the process monitoring and control instrumentation and the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for the City of Denton Water Utilities Department. Key Responsibilities: Maintains awareness of equipment operation and notifies appropriate department of any suspected abnormalities. Troubleshoots failures in any of the systems this position is responsible to maintain. Selects and installs process and environmental monitoring instrumentation. Calibrates instrumentation using accepted practices. Performs the key responsibilities on equipment including but not limited to: Communication Systems, including: Licensed VHF Data radio network RF Modems, Coax and Antennas Spread Spectrum Data radio network Coax and Antennas Ethernet and Fiber Optic systems (Single-Mode & Multi-Mode Fiber) Bridges, Switches, Mode Converters, Fiber Termination Equipment, Patch Panels Computer Ethernet systems SCADA System, including: Computer Systems that page out notification of received warnings and alarms, and continuously monitors plant operations and provides HMI capability. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), related I/O modules and application software Process Monitoring and Control Instrumentation, including: Ultrasonic Level transmitters, Flow transmitters (Ultrasonic and Open Channel Monitors), Pressure transmitters / switches, Differential Pressure transmitters Toxic and Explosive Gas Monitors, Chemical Analyzers, Dissolved Oxygen Monitors (LDO), Turbidity Analyzers Additional Duties: Performs and assists with other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: High School diploma or GED equivalent and Electronic Trade School Certificate or Diploma A minimum of five years experience in maintaining or operation of electronic communications and control equipment OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Ability to read complex electronic schematics and electrical circuits Ability to perform in a team environment identify and resolve any operational issues Ability to properly use hand tools and test equipment associated with the trade Ability to adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Ability to assume “On Call” to respond to emergency situations that may occur after normal working hours including weekends Ability to work above normal heights; 10-100 feet Ability to work in confined spaces using proper safety equipment Ability to perform tasks involving moderate lifting Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must have good physical dexterity; capable of working in all types of weather, digging, pulling wire, lifting heavy loads, standing and performing tedious work for extended periods of time Must be able to work 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with overtime as required Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies within 45 minutes Preferences: Preference will be given to applicants experienced with RF communication systems, and/or process instrumentation and/or SCADA systems in a manufacturing or process control environment. Will consider training an applicant with less experience that demonstrates exceptional basic electronic and electrical skills under the City of Denton Developmental Tracking Policy 104.07 Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
