Logistics Specialist - GC0929 - ELECTRIC ENGINEERING City of Denton Job Description Title: Logistics Specialist Position ID: GC0929-600500 Department/Division: Denton Municipal Electric / Engineering Reports To: DME Logistics Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for performing a wide variety of Denton Municipal Electric activities pertaining to Construction Projects and Operations. This includes assisting with the tracking of project completion, the receiving all incoming materials using various equipment such as forklifts, knuckle boom and other various equipment. The reserving of materials for future projects, maintain an organized environment, receive invoices against purchase orders, and input correct data into the Lifecycle database. Inspects related products in a manner that will optimize and improve DME's efficiency, helping to achieve the City's core values. Essential Functions: Coordinate with Engineering teams to ensure materials are available for all current and future construction projects. Assists Electric Project Administrator with all daily operations. Performs weekly audit of all materials in DME's stock inventory, reconcile count against Automated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, resolve any discrepancies between counts. Utilizes Automated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to place orders, track shipments, and receive materials. Assists with negotiations with suppliers/contractors to locate materials, supplies, parts, tools and equipment. Obtains informal quotes for materials, research availability, quality, and accurate delivery dates. Determines best value for materials, and entry of requisition into City's financial system. Performs daily operations for material demands including entering, tracking, receiving, creating Purchase Orders for O&M, Distribution, Substations, and System Operation divisions. Performs standard shipping/receiving functions, verifies, materials upon delivery; ensures shipping manifests balance with invoicing. Operates heavy equipment such as forklifts and knuckle booms, to fulfill customer orders, unload deliveries, and organize existing stock within the DME Pole Yard. Operates automated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to create Purchase Orders for materials and contracted work based on quotes and estimates. Maintains record of tools and equipment that are issued and returned by field crews. Orders tools, parts, and repairs as required. Future commit all materials required for upcoming projects by reserving them in the DME Lifecycle database. Issues materials and tools under proper authorization; processes required documentation/records. Performs the disposal of scrapped transformers in compliance with EPA regulations. Checks received material for quantity; makes visual inspections for identity, breakage, and condition; initiates material receipt and related records. Prepares and packs material for shipment or storage. Maintains and processes Pole Yard related records; Performs daily inspections to assess incoming/outgoing materials. Assists Electric Project Administrator with the ordering, maintaining and issuance of DME uniforms. Takes Pole-Yard call every 3rd week to assist crews with power restoration and with the tracking of assets utilized during outage calls as well as damaged assets. Daily inspection and maintenance of equipment used which includes before, during, and after use Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High school diploma or GED Five (5) years of logistical operations experience or a related field OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Implement and train employees on the Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR) equipment Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) Extensive knowledge of inventory management practices, reporting and key performance indicators Knowledge of Local, State, Federal guidelines and regulations for procurement of supplies and materials in a governmental work environment Must have knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware, and software in area of assignment Ability to identify issues and propose solutions in a timely manner Ability to gather and analyze data and draw conclusions and present data and other information in a clear and logical manner Ability to handle all tasks with minimal supervision and direction Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns Skill in effectively reviewing work and providing technical assistance to assigned staff Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Two (2) years of experience in an electric utility or similar environment Experience in materials management software Experience utilizing JD Edwards software system Forklift Certification Conditions of Employment: Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check. Must pass a physical examination. Must be available to be on outage standby every 3rd week. Must be available to work outside of regular business hours as needed.
