Definition: Responsible for providing desk coverage and assistance to library customers with circulation, information, and computer assistance services. Also responsible for circulation
or public services support duties such as shelving materials, assisting with account procedures, providing programming support, and maintenance of collections.
Essential Functions:
Provides assistance and instruction in a pleasant manner to the library customers in person, over the telephone, or by electronic mail
Assist and instruct customers in use of technology to check out materials; checks out materials
Register new library customers, update library accounts
Accepts cash, check, or card payments
Assist and instruct customers in use of online catalog, public computers, printers and other library machinery
Assist with preparation and promotion of programs and services for teams.
Assist customers with reader’s advisory services and basic reference assistance
Prepare publicity materials, displays and bulletin boards
Follow established library policies and procedures when assisting the public
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Circulation Duties:
Checks in returned materials and assesses and collects fees as needed
Organizes and straightens materials on the shelves and ensures that they are in proper order according to the Dewey Decimal System
Monitors the conditions of returned materials and routes to proper area and staff member as applicable
Assists with repairs of materials as needed
Organize and shelve library materials
Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Public Services Duties:
Assist with preparation and promotions of programs and classes as needed
Assist with outreach programs
Collect in-house statistics
May supervise volunteers
May repair materials
Assist and instruct customers in use of library Maker Space equipment and technology
Assist customers with library online resources and digital collections
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Two years of college
OR
High school diploma or GED equivalency and two (2) years library experience
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Prior experience working with children from preschool through young adult
Prior experience with an integrated library system (ILS)
Conditions of Employment:
Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver license
and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)

ust pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must pass a physical examination
Must be able to reach above shoulder level and stoop below knee level
Must be legally sighted and able to hear to be able to assist customers
Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public
Must be able to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends
