Field Services Worker II - GL0404-402170-1 - P&R-PM-ATHLETICS Athletics City of Denton Job Description Title: Field Services Worker II - Athletics Position ID: GL0404-402170-1 Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Athletics Report to: Crew Leader FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for assisting with athletic field and general grounds maintenance to ensure appropriate and timely completion of projects, practices, games and tournaments. Essential Functions: Operates light to medium equipment such as various types of mowers, backhoes, skidsteers, dump trucks, loaders and tractors with implements to perform various tasks. Performs various duties using chain saws, weed-eaters, sod cutters, utility vehicles, field groomers, painters, sprayers and hand tools. Inspects equipment, park structures and playgrounds for safety compliance Performs minor construction and park facility repairs using skilled trade practices Assists crew in coordinating day to day tasks with crew. Inspects equipment and performs minor maintenance activities and report exceptional problems to the supervisor. Performs work to ensure appropriate and timely completion of maintenance. Responds to after hour callouts for high water, storm damage, and ice and snow removal/control. Performs operational support for special events and tournaments May operate hand tools to heavy, complex equipment and is responsible for training of subordinate staff. Assists in training full time, seasonal, and contract in the best and safest methods of accomplishing tasks, primarily through on the job or individual instruction. Performs custodial duties to park restrooms, pavilions, concessions, and other park areas. Responsible for ensuring all athletic fields are prepared for games, practices and tournaments in a timely manner Performs general maintenance and construction of parks including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, litter control, playground maintenance, and tree work Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One year of experience ground maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or irrigation experience OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to work in all kinds of weather Ability to work a rotating work schedule including nights and weekends Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Preference may be given to applicants that possess a Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide License. Knowledge of grounds maintenance and installation, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment related to grounds maintenance or athletic field maintenance Commercial Driver License preferred Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work overtime when requested including nights and weekends Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Applicators License within 18 months of employment. Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment Must be able to move or lift objects of 100 lbs. or more, as necessary Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
