Definition: Responsible for assisting with irrigation installation and maintenance in parks, medians, public buildings, and cemeteries
Essential Functions:
Responsible for repairing and maintaining existing irrigation systems on all city owned properties.
Assists in the installation of new irrigation systems following local and state codes.
Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to facilitate repairs and install new irrigation systems.
Operates light to medium equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, trenchers, and tractors with implements to perform various tasks.
Performs construction and park facility repairs using skilled trade practices
Assists in coordinating day to day tasks with crew.
Inspects equipment and performs minor maintenance activities and reports problems to the supervisor.
Responds to after hour callouts for high water, storm damage, and ice and snow removal/control.
May operate hand tools and heavy complex equipment.
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned
Performs operational support for special events sometimes outside of normal working hours
Assists other divisions and departments when needed including tasks outside of normal responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
AND
One-year (1) of experience in park maintenance or an irrigation related field
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Preference may be given to applicants that possess a Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide License or Irrigation technician license
Commercial Driver License preferred
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must pass a physical examination
Must be able to work overtime when requested
Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Applicators License or Texas irrigation technician license within 18 months of employment.
Ability to work a rotating work schedule. This includes nights and weekends.
