Definition: Responsible for performing technical tasks with a low to moderate level of complexity related to the processing of permit applications; assisting customers with payments,
inquiries; and providing general administrative support to applicants and staff.
Essential Functions:
Provides excellent customer service, which include: greeting customers; answering phones; responding to requests for information or service; and, performing other related activities.
Conducts basic permit and licensing application activities, which include: accepting and processing permit applications, contractor registrations, checking for completeness and compliance
with applicable local and state requirements; issuing permits for construction projects including pools, fences, foundations, roof repairs, moving structures, demolitions, and special
events; issuing over-the-counter electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and select sign permits; processing and issuing approved health, commercial, residential, engineering, and fire permits;
and/or, performing other related activities.
Provides technical support associated with permitting activities, which include: coordinating public inquiry on development processes, codes, ordinances, and permit requirements; processing
utility releases; scheduling and entering inspections; documenting complaints; enforcing and updating required contractor registrations; and/or, performing other related activities.
Performs financial activities in support of department operations, which include: collecting building permit, development, registration, and other miscellaneous fees; administering accounting
systems for transaction receipts; making daily deposits to central cashiers; balancing till drawers; generating revenue reports; and/or, performing other related activities.
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
High School diploma or GED equivalent with courses in business English, computer skills, word processing, and general office practices
2 years of customer service, construction/design, or related municipal experience
International Code Council certification(s) as a Permit Technician may be substituted for 1 year of experience
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Certified Permit Technician
Previous building inspections customer service, construction or municipal experience
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business)
Must be able to work overtime when requested
International Code Council Certification as a Permit Technician within one (1) year of employment
