Recreation Specialist - GT0516-411140-2 City of Denton Job Description Title: Recreation Specialist – Recreation Center Position ID: GT0516-411140-2 Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Leisure Services Reports to: Recreation Supervisor FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: This position serves as team lead for PARD customer service operations, assists with membership recruitment, and performs administrative duties, including but not limited to; record keeping, reporting, purchasing, and program budgets. Assists in coordinating, planning, implementing recreation programs, trips, special events, volunteers, instructors, and participants. Essential Functions: Greets ALL Customers as they enter the building and provides excellent customer service Answers telephone, check messages, and return phone calls Registers participants for department's programs in CivicRec Software. Explains different activities options, rules and benefits of each Responds to and resolves customer service issues and/or unique or complex requests from customers. Escalates issues to the center supervisor as necessary. Schedules & monitors facility rentals and birthday parties, assists with clean-up and reports any damages or defaults in contracts Completes deposits and performs cash handling responsibilities Coordinates court appointed community service program, works with court system & probation officers to ensure compliance with required standards Helps to insure overall appearance of facility is in proper order at all times. Monitors completion of staff assigned daily and weekly cleaning duties. Identifies system, process and workflow improvements to enhance the team’s efficiency and customer service standards. Assists in recruiting, training, supervising, and directing instructors, seasonal staff, volunteers and participants. May assist manager with scheduling. Is familiar with and enforces facility's rules Monitors facility during free play and classes Sets up tables, chairs and other equipment as needed for classes and/special events Familiarizes self with facility and department programs and special events, assists instructors and coordinators as needed. Assist in special event and rental coverage on weekends and holidays as needed. Assists other recreation centers, athletics, tennis center, driving range, rec care and the BEES group with desk coverage, programs and special events. Assists in the planning, organizing, and implementation of recreation programs. Schedules, books, and assists in transporting or chaperoning by vehicle via van or passenger bus for designated trips and programs. Collects and records activity and registration records and makes budgetary recommendations to supervisor. Prepares reports and evaluates programs to identify methods and areas of improvement. Inventories and purchases supplies, equipment and materials for various programs. Works independently, prioritizes tasks and completes them within specified time frames. Completes additional administrative duties as assigned Complies with all City of Denton policies and procedures. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department policies and procedures. Acquires job specific certifications and training related to job specific program area Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School diploma/GED, 1-year recreation experience OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Produces quality work with accuracy and thoroughness. Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Recreation or related field college coursework Conditions of Employment: M ust have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law.) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check. Must pass a physical examination (evaluate per position.) Must be able to work overtime when requested (non-exempt.) Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required. Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business.) CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 6 months of employment. City of Denton Cash Handling course within 6 months of employment.
