Library Assistant III - GC0715 - SOUTH BRANCH LIBRARY Circulation Team Lead City of Denton Job Description  Title: Library Assistant III – Circulation Team Leader Position ID: GC0715 Department/Division: Library/Circulation Reports to: Senior Librarian or Branch Manager FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for overseeing the overall and daily operation of the Circulation area. Provides desk coverage and assistance to library customers by checking out materials, accepting returned materials, collecting fines and fees, and issuing library cards to new customers. Essential Functions: Maintains circulation staff schedules to accomplish all workload measures in the area Supervises circulation staff, monitoring compliance with library procedures and policy Provides assistance and directions in a pleasant manner to the library customers in person, over the telephone, or by email Assists with desk coverage for checking out materials, registering new library customers, accepting payment for overdue materials, etc. Assists with check in of returned materials and assesses and collects fees as needed Organizes and shelves returned materials as needed Searches the shelves for claim returns and overdue materials Monitors the conditions of returned materials and routes to proper area and librarian as applicable Assists with opening and closing procedures for the unit Gathers data for monthly reports Processes cash deposits Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED Two years of experience in a library Four years of experience with cash handling in a customer service environment OR Associates degree/two years college credit course work and two years of experience cash handling in a customer service environment Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner Ability to perform all job duties in a manner that is consistent with the City of Denton’s mission to deliver outstanding quality services and products through collaboration, innovation and efficient use of resources Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to reach above shoulder level and stoop below knee level Must be legally sighted and able to hear to be able to assist patrons Must be able to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Prior experience with an integrated library system Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
