Park Construction Skilled Tech - GT0741 - PM TRADES AND LANDSCAPE City of Denton Job Description Title: Parks Construction Skilled Technician Position ID: GT0741-402180 Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Trades Reports to: Crew Leader FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: Yes Definition: Responsible for assisting with general park and public grounds maintenance to ensure appropriate and timely completion of projects. Essential Functions: Assists crew leader in planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of subordinates. Daily tracking of crew’s time and expenses on work management system. Monitors and performs maintenance work to ensure appropriate and timely completion of maintenance and projects. Responds to after hour callouts for high water, storm damage, and ice and snow removal/control. May operate hand tools to heavy, complex equipment and is responsible for training of subordinate staff. Assists crew leader by calculating materials and making recommendations on purchases for their crews’ needs. Assists supervisor with conducting interviews and providing input on selected candidates Operates equipment and performs duties of subordinates as needed Assists in training subordinates in the best and safest methods of accomplishing tasks, primarily through on the job or individual instruction Responsible for assigned procurement card and purchases. Responsible for the reconciliation with statements and entering purchases on internal purchase journal and/or work management system. Interprets blueprints and plans, inspects finished jobs including final inspection, and submits recommendations for final site adjustments. Responsible for ensuring crews understand and follow City policies and procedures as well as the department’s responsibilities. (such as weekend duty and on-call procedures and expectations). Responsible for welding fabrication duties including assisting in the design and the structural welding of steel and aluminum. Performs carpentry duties including the operation of table saws, band saws, compound miter saws and circular saws. Lead and assist construction crew in the installation of concrete. This includes the construction of forms, installing reinforcing steel, preparing piers and final concrete finishing. Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Responsible for ensuring that all parks structures are operational and maintain an appealing appearance. Performs general maintenance and repairs on parks amenities. This includes performing carpentry, welding, masonry, plumbing and painting tasks on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in a construction related field Ability to move or lift objects of 50lbs. or more, as necessary. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers. Ability to operate computer software effectively including the operation of Mach 3 and Vectric V Carve. Ability to work in all kinds of weather Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Texas Tradesman Plumber-Limited, Journeyman or Master Plumber License Texas Registered Accessibility Specialist License Certified Welding License Prior experience in Park Maintenance Conditions of Employment: Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work overtime when requested Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Applicators License or Equivalent within 18 months of employment.
