Playground Safety Inspector.Technician - GT0746-402170 City of Denton Job Description Title: Playground Safety Inspector/Technician Position ID: GT0746-402170 Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Parks Maintenance Reports to: Parks Manager FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for all the equipment and compliance requirements for playgrounds in the City of Denton to assure safe and reliable playgrounds are provided to park users. Essential Functions: Conducts detailed safety checks and inspections of existing playground equipment and protective surfaces in the City parks to ensure they are in compliance with departments standards, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, American Society for Testing and Materials, and American Disabilities Act guidelines Examines plans and specifications for new playground installations Inspects new playground equipment installations and modifications to ensure contractor compliance with department standards, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, American Society for Testing and Materials, and ADA guidelines Works independently and conducts specialized playground equipment inspections and skilled labor tasks to maintain safety standards for equipment in the park system Repairs playground equipment, components, and surfaces within scope of authority; replaces and adjusts worn and damaged mechanical parts and components; troubleshoots present potential problems; researches and orders parts and supplies Leads field staff on playground modifications and major component replacements Performs skilled playground equipment maintenance; inspects, tests, adjusts, cleans, lubricates equipment and components; installs new playground equipment Documents inspections, repairs and maintains technical records Prepares surfaces and applies protective finishes as needed; sweeps and cleans playground facilities, removes graffiti, and cleans up hazards and vandalism Operates a variety of vehicles and specialized equipment to install playground equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems which require additional repair Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition Enters and maintains daily work tasks on the asset work management system Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Responds to after hour call outs for high water, storm damage and ice removal/control Rotates weekend duty trash route and high water on call throughout the year Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair of playgrounds and facilities Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification is required OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to effectively utilize grounds and maintenance equipment Ability to operate computer software and mobile devices to input daily work management Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Five (5) years experience in Playground Safety Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” CDL driver’s license OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within nine (9) months of employment Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must be able to work overtime when requested Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment Ability to work in all kinds of weather Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
