Definition: Responsible for providing the control, health, safety, and destruction of animals and enforcement of animal control ordinances of the City of Denton.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates satisfactory performance in all job functions of an Animal Services Officer I.
Leads, plans, and participates in more complex assignments of the Animal Services Officers I when patrolling City streets, roads and parks, searching for stray dogs and other domestic
or wild animals: impounding sick, injured, stray or trapped domestic and non-domestic animals.
Assists Animal Services management in mentoring/coaching Animal Services Officer I. Provides assistance on service calls in the field when needed.
Interprets and enforces State, City and local animal control laws, codes and ordinances; explains ordinances to citizens; issues citations for violations of animal control ordinances.
Responds to service calls that are considered high priority calls, for example Dangerous Dogs, Vicious animals, and Cruelty calls.
Performs and leads the most complex investigations related to animal bite cases and similar reported injuries. Prepares bite reports, confirming details with bite victim. Notifies animal
owners of incidents, issues quarantine notices, and impound animal.
Assists Animal Services Officer I with investigations when necessary.
Checks animals for rabies vaccinations; prepares rabies specimens for shipment to laboratory; receives tests results and notifies animal owners of the results.
Additional Duties:
Provides public education regarding animal control ordinances and responsible pet ownership duties.
Prepares and maintains monthly statistical reports for City Management, Animal Shelter Advisory Board, and Supervisor as needed.
Inspects, operates and maintains the animal control vehicle and various animal control devices and equipment.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
At least five years experience in Animal Services or related field
Must have Basic Animal Services and Euthanasia Technician Certifications
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state
required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
Must pass a physical examination (evaluate per position)
Must be able to work overtime when requested
