Water Utilities Electrician I - GT0730 - WASTEWATER-WATER RECLAMATION City of Denton Job Description  Title: Water Utilities Electrician I Position ID: GT0730 Department/Division: Wastewater/Water Reclamation Reports to: Water Production Electrical Maintenance Manager FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for assisting other electricians and Operations/Maintenance staff with all electrical work at the Water Production Plant and the Water Reclamation Plant Essential Functions: Assists Electricians in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems and components; such as general electrical systems and electrical feeders for municipal/industrial water plant facilities, motor starters, electric motors, pump control circuits, level controls, automation control circuits, instrumentation equipment, motorized valve operators, relays, transformers, and lighting equipment Assists Electrician in installing all types of conduit, pulling wire and cable, installing junction boxes and enclosures, in accordance with N.E.C. requirements Builds control panels using blueprints with supervision Performs preventive maintenance on electric motors, replacing bearings, cleaning stators; performs maintenance on other related electrical equipment for motors Assists electrician in performing troubleshooting duties on operational equipment; takes volt and amp readings on live circuits; Maintains accessibility by telephone contact with the Water Production and Water Reclamation Divisions and responds to emergencies at all hours if necessary Complies with department safety programs Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: High school diploma or GED equivalent Three years’ experience in commercial or industrial electrical work Must be able to work at various heights on roofs, ladders, scaffolds, and in confined spaces such as underground vaults Good physical condition including hearing, sight, agility, and must be able to lift 80 pounds OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Must have valid Texas Class "B" commercial driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment hire date Must be able to work overtime when requested Preferences: Completion of electrical trade schooling Experience in the water treatment field or industrial plant maintenance environment Maintenance Electrician License Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
