Marketing Administrator - GP3318 - PUBLIC AFFAIRSEffective Date: 18-Apr-16  Revision Date:   Position ID:  G43008  Career Ladder:  Business Professional Ladder 4  FLSA:  Exempt   City of Denton Job Title: Marketing Administrator   Department/Division: Parks Leisure Services   Reports to: Parks Program Area Manager    Job Description DEFINITION: The purpose of this job is to serve as the central authority and resource for marketing and communications for the Parks and Recreation Department to ensure consistent and effective messaging through the creation and implementation of strategic plans for leisure services, Water Works Park, and Denton Civic Center. This job creates deliverables and disseminates information online and offline with the purpose of educating the public about the department's brand, programs, and events, through favorable relationships with the news media, convention and visitors bureau, and other outside agencies and portals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Time Spent:  Designs, produces, and manages the in-house creative production and delivery of the departments visual communications, including but not limited to, all print media, direct mail, social media, event and program branding, electronic and static billboards, email and digital media advertising, electronic and static billboards and banners/signage. Manages outsourced creative production schedules for the development and deployment of TV and theater commercials, radio campaigns, photo shoots, and other creative media. 40%  Designs and develops special projects for the Executive Team and/or managers, including but not limited to, presentations, general and program specific surveys, grants, award applications, CIP communication materials, public art dedication announcements, annual reports, Spanish translations, and safety, policy, and communications signage for recreation and aquatic facilities, parks, and trails, for public distribution, City Council, City Management, Park Board, Park Foundation, and the Public Art Committee. 10%  Prepares, implements, and manages the departments marketing and communications plan and specific plans for Water Works Park and Denton Civic Center. Designs and manages the Water Works Park website and other websites as needed, and provides analytics for reporting purposes. 10%  Designs, manages, and produces the departments three annual guides (one 44 page PLAY! Guide, one 48 page PLAY! Guide, and one 16 page summer guide). 10%  Hires, trains, and supervises a Marketing Assistant, and provides creative support and design for social media posts and campaigns, online ads, email blasts, program description copy, and editing and modifying the departments website. 10%  Serves on the Citys Communications Team and oversees the dissemination of department information to the media, DTV, PIO, PCO, City Council, City Management, and City communicators, including but not limited to, the distribution of press releases, social media, and program and human interest stories. Monitors the media for topics affecting the departments brand and image in the community, writes press releases, stories, articles, and key talking points, and serves as a liaison as needed. Maintains annual training to serve as a backup Emergency Public Information Officer during the activation of the EOC. 5%  NATURE OF WORK: This job predominantly performs first level supervisory work in own department. Reviews and approves work of employees. POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF ERRORS: Errors can result in legal ramifications, loss of funding and loss of credibility. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: This job is involved in department or division budget. The level of budget involvement goes as far as reviewing, editing, and assisting in developing project methodology. Incumbents in this job carry out other duties as assigned by direct supervisors or managers. Supervisory Duties: This job supervises either employees, contractors or volunteers. This job evaluates employee performance. With limited authority, this job gives recommendations only and does not make final decisions. Supervises one (1) direct report, the highest level this job supervises is the Marketing Assistant. Customer and General Interaction Duties: Interactions specifically with customers: Always (More than 85% in a year). This job interacts EXTENSIVELY with employees, general public, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other agencies. Written and Oral Communication Duties: On a regular basis, this job communicates with citizens or general public as part of routine duties. On a frequent basis, this job independently creates routine and special reports according to data gathered and information held. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / ACCEPTABLE EQUIVALENCY: Education Required of the Job: Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism or marketing or equivalent. Experience Required of the Job: 2 years in administration, program management and/or any combination of education, experience. Credentials Required of the Job: This job does not require any specific credentials. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. of work related materials. Operates computers both notebooks and desktop, operates digital printing machines, operates photographic machines, performs tedious work for extended periods of time. Incumbents in this job utilizes vision to perform work. SAFETY GEAR REQUIREMENTS: No specific protective gear is required for this job. WORK DELEGATION: This position REGULARLY assigns or delegates work to other employees and/or contractors. WORKING CONDITION, UNDER WHICH THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ARE PERFORMED: On a constant basis, incumbents in this job generally work in an office environment.
