Transportation Planner - GP4227 - PLANNING City of Denton Job Description Title: Transportation Planner Position ID: GP4227-220001 Department/Division: Development Services/Planning Reports to: Planning Director FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes DOT: No Definition: Responsible for the overall management and administration of the transportation planning aspects of private development, master plans, special districts, city standards and ordinances, parking management, schools and neighborhoods. Essential Functions: Provides technical assistance and information to the Transportation Planning Administrator, consultants, developers, citizens and City staff on matters regarding private development design review, construction and traffic impact studies. Ensures coordination of transportation planning between multimodal transportation across the City including the various master plans including comprehensive plan, mobility plan, parks master plan, and others. Participates in the design review, construction and inspection of transportation elements of private development projects from initiation to final acceptance. Recommends transportation systems improvements or projects, based on economic, population, land-use or traffic projections Manages all phases of assigned private development and special projects. Works with the Capital Projects Manager and Traffic Signal and ITS Systems Manager to identify capital needs based on development demands and revised zoning. Approves right of way and design changes for private development projects. Negotiates, mediates and consults with developers, consultants and contractors concerning private development requirements, pay estimates and change orders. Provides analytical and developmental recommendations relating to engineering plans, specifications and reports on improvements and new construction for the City. Assists with the annual operating, capital and other related budget preparation. Prepares council agenda items for private development or other special projects. Attends meetings with consultants, developers, contractors and other staff as necessary. Conducts site inspections for traffic related items as necessary for projects at all phases of construction. Evaluates and responds to public, inter-departmental and city official inquiries. Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Maintains a variety of records for the department related to development activities. Prepares a variety of reports related to departmental activities. May investigate violations, conduct field inspections; or attend public meetings Attends a substantial number of evening and weekend meetings. Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in planning, transportation planning, urban studies, public administration, geography, environmental studies, marketing, transportation engineering or a closely related field One (1) year of professional level transportation planning experience.
