Business Information Analyst - GP3602 - FIRE ADMINISTRATION City of Denton Job Description Title: Business Information Analyst Position ID: GP3602-320001 Department/Division: Fire/Fire Administration Reports to: Fire Administration Manager FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for determining and translating business data requests into reporting needs, works in various roles as a facilitator of projects and process development, and assists with the identification and development of optimizing technology solutions for department processes. Essential Functions: Develops, enhances, and maintains various types of data reports for Fire divisions. Develops tracking and trending tools to assist with forecasting and achieving Fire Department performance goals. Acts as technical resource performing database record updates/modifications, pulls data for reports directly from the database. Determines and translates business data requests into reporting needs within a variety of third-party reporting software applications, provides information findings and prepares reports, graphs, charts and other illustrative materials as needed. Evaluates new visualization tools, performs research on best practices as needed and takes the initiative to learn new tools and new ways of visualizing/displaying data and insights. Assists in the testing of new versions, products, software upgrades or processes for all modules within reporting systems. Provides an explanation of reporting application matters to users with little or no technical background. Makes decisions and recommendations of a broad nature in accordance with general policy and guidelines. Conducts occasional business-tool training sessions for power users. Identifies, inquires, performs research, and uses independent judgment regarding problems that are difficult to identify or where facts may be insufficient or misleading. Works on projects that may span a range of technologies. Works in various roles as a facilitator of projects and process development for various aspects of contract management, technology project management, and Civil Service payroll, and acts as technical resource. Identifies project tasks and leads or assists with project timeline estimations. Coordinates projects with team members and end users for deadline requirements. Assists with payroll functions and operations to include, but not limited to, serving as back-up when needed. Analyzes and develops productivity systems to streamline and improve operations. Develops action plans and implements continuous improvement initiatives and innovative business solutions. Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Assists with special projects Serves as back up to other positions as needed Performs the duties of the Fire Administration Manager in their absence Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field with emphasis on computer information systems Two (2) years of dashboard development and developing business analytics solutions, focusing on requirements Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) OR Associates degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field with analytical emphasis Four (4) years dashboard development and developing business analytics solutions, focusing on requirements Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Demonstrates strong team building and creative thinking skills, and a desire to make a difference Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Exhibits an ability to solve complex problems through professional expertise and sound judgment Ability to be well organized and handle multiple projects Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers Ability to perform all job duties in a manner that is consistent with the City of Denton’s core values of integrity, fiscal responsibility, inclusion, transparency, and outstanding customer service.
