Senior Engineer - GP4304 - ENGINEERING Water and Wastewater City of Denton Job Description  Title: Senior Engineer – Water and Wastewater Position ID: GP4304 Department/Division: Engineering Services Reports to: City Engineer FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes? DOT: No Definition: Responsible for Capital Improvement Projects related to water and wastewater engineering. May also provide assistance with transportation or drainage and development review projects on an as needed basis. Essential Functions: Manages and designs water and wastewater related projects in the capital improvement program from planning through construction phases. Represents the Engineering Services and Water Utilities Departments in the City of Denton Development Review Process in-house meetings relative to water and wastewater designs of development projects on an as needed basis and acts as liaison with other city departments involved in the review of land development projects. May be responsible for assisting with the implementation of codes, rules, standards and regulations applicable to the water and wastewater component of development projects, and reviews of plans and specifications related to utility improvements. As a Senior Engineer – Water-Wastewater, provides information to and deals with developers, engineers, contractors, the public and outside agencies in relation to water and wastewater utility design issues. Assists with the preparation of written reports and agenda items for various boards and commissions as well as the City Council. Directs the efforts of and provides technical leadership to other engineers and technicians in the department in relation to water and wastewater design issues. Other assignments may include performing engineering calculations, selecting equipment components, preparing specifications, plan preparation and review, project management of capital improvement projects, and report preparation related to water and wastewater and other capital projects. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas Minimum of ten (10) years directly related experience with at least five (5) years’ experience after registration OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Experience in the design and repair/rehabilitation of water and wastewater distribution and collection systems. Additional preferred experience includes hydraulic modeling, design of treatment plants, elevated storage facilities, lift stations and high service pump stations. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, and outside agencies. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance (evaluate per position). Skilled in the basic use of a personal computer including the following types of software: Microsoft Windows suite, Cybernet, Hydroworks and/or other applicable software. Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required Preferences: Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Bilingual in Spanish and English Proficient in AutoCAD Drainage and transportation design experience Experience in project management, subdivision review, and capital planning Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
