Data Analyst - TT3004-830400 City of Denton Job Description Title: Data Analyst Position ID: TT3004-830400 Department/Division: Technology Services Reports to: Sr. Manager, Enterprise Applications FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: The Data Analyst position is responsible for performing extract, transform and load (ETL) data integration tasks, report generation, data cleansing, query writing, and the creation of data displays (dashboards, charts, graphs) in support of Technology Services and City operations. This position will work closely with the Database Architect on assigned projects and tasks. Essential Functions: Works independently and/or with the Database Administrator to create system design documentation related to existing or new database, ETL or reporting and / or dashboards Partners/collaborates with internal/external customers on solution development, analysis of options, and scheduling meetings/demonstrations with vendors and customers Facilitates information flow and follow-up between Technology Services divisions and other city departments regarding data centric projects Assists with projects and maintaining updated status on assignments Ability to gather data, critically evaluate information from multiple sources, decompose high-level information into detailed process flow/requirements, analyze findings, and develop recommendations Prepares technical documentation and prepares reports, graphs, charts, process maps, presentations, and other illustrative materials Creates memorandums, informal staff reports, scopes of work, etc. as requested Utilizes Microsoft Power BI to build and maintain tabulated reports, dashboards, and datasets for city departments Assists with purchase of software and professional services including RFPs and RFQs Possesses excellent public speaking and presentation skills Represents Tech Services at various city staff meetings when requested, prepares material for such meetings, and makes formal presentations to staff executives Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned New tasks where analyst can add value to Tech Services, customers, and/or the City Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS, MIS, or similar field of study and 2-5 years of experience working in a Microsoft SQL database environment 1-3 years working with ETL software 1-3 years working with dashboard creation software OR 5-10 years working in a Microsoft SQL database environment 3-5 years working with ETL software 3-5 years working with dashboard creation software OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Exhibits strong interpersonal/human relation skills and the ability to support controversial positions or negotiate sensitive issues with customers, residents, and co-workers Ability to work independently with limited direction relying on his/her own judgement, requesting supervisory assistance when necessary, and seeking performance feedback periodically Maintain knowledge by continuing professional education and staying aware of the new concepts and innovations in the field of public management and local government service delivery Has experience designing, building, and deploying Microsoft Power BI dashboards and tabulated reports Has experience writing T-SQL statements in a Microsoft SQL environment Ability to get along with customers, co-workers, council members, and residents Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Have a customer focus, problem solving abilities, and work with a sense of urgency/enthusiasm Extensive experience using Microsoft Office and M365 suite of products Preferences: Previous experience working as an Analyst (Business or Data) Experience with Safe Software’s FME Bilingual in Spanish and English Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification check Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The bold and italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
