Systems Architect II - TT3603 City of Denton Job Description Title: Systems Architect II Position ID: TT3603 Department/Division: Technology Services Report to: Enterprise Infrastructure Manager FLSA Designation: Exempt Safety Sensitive: No DOT: No Definition: Responsible for providing technical leadership for the systems operating environment in ways to ensure availability, performance, reliability, security and compliance. Essential Functions: Performs a variety of activities, including: defining requirements; assessing server, storage and infrastructure sizing; analyzing hardware sizing to meet application requirements; and designing load balancing and clustering solutions according to architecture standards. Analyzes emerging technologies and make recommendations for adaptation. Analyzes industry and market trends to identify impact on enterprise architecture. Takes lead on system design, architecture and integration. Coordinates system development activities with other groups and participates in short- and long-term planning. Designs, implements and documents key system components, interfaces, infrastructure and communications. Functions as subject matter expert and system architecture authority for systems integration. Handles high level system architectures and interfaces. Maintains optimal performance of infrastructure resources. Defines and ensures continuous monitoring procedures are set according to the standard procedures and requirements. Performs routine maintenance tasks for infrastructure systems; backups, patch management and hot fixes. Establishes requirements, methods and procedures. Plans and schedules hardware and software repair and installations and performs structural changes when necessary. Leads the implementation of contingency plans including reliable backup and restore procedures. Maintains inventory of spare hardware. Incorporates, implements, and maintains cloud-based infrastructure and services in accordance with standards and industry best practices. Supports and establishes systems environment standards. Produces and maintains system operating procedures and documentation. Develops solutions in accordance with standards, policies, benchmarks and guidelines. Mentors junior staff. Coordinates projects with users and fellow team members to meet deadline requirements. Additional Duties: Adds, moves, changes to server, workstation and/or software infrastructure Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Information Systems, or a related field with eight (8) years of experience in a computer science, technology service, or management information systems environment. OR Master’s Degree in Business, Computer Information Systems, or a related field with six (6) years of experience in a computer science, technology service, or management information systems environment. OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Advanced Knowledge of Virtualization technologies. Knowledge of a broad range of hardware and software products. Knowledge of Server operating systems. Knowledge of Patch management techniques. Advanced Knowledge of Fiber Channel SAN and NAS storage including storage replication and site-to-site replication technologies. Knowledge of scripting techniques. Knowledge of least-privileged security model. Knowledge of Cloud Services and Cloud Infrastructure. Demonstrates effective resource, project planning, and decision-making skills, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation related to datacenter infrastructure. Ability to identify, inquire, research and use independent judgment regarding problems that are difficult to identify or where facts may be insufficient and misleading. Experience and ability to work through change management process based on ITIL framework. Possesses excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to champion causes with positive impact and change. Demonstrated experience gathering and analyzing large amounts of data, generating reports, presenting information, and providing recommendations. Demonstrated experience maintaining and updating policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience handling sensitive or confidential information. Demonstrated experience maintaining records of regulatory compliance. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history background check Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as needed. Preferences: Knowledge of VMware, Cisco, and EMC infrastructure solutions strongly preferred. Knowledge of federal, state and other regulatory compliance including, but not limited to, NERC, TLETS/CJIS, EPA, HIPPA, FCRA, and external auditor is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Office 365 and Azure Cloud Services are a plus.
