PARD Supervisor - SA3002 - P&R-LS-YOUTH/TEEN SERVICES After School Site Supervisor City of Denton Job Description Title: Position ID: Afterschool Action Site Team Lead SA3002  Department/Division: Parks and Recreation  Reports to: Recreational Care Supervisor  FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt  Safety Sensitive: No  DOT: No    Description: Responsible for supervising, conducting, and planning structured activities for after school program including sports, arts and crafts, nature/outdoor, field trips and other general activities for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Essential Functions Plans, organizes, and implements various recreational activities for elementary age children (K-5th) Leads, supervises, and conducts classes, activities, and special events Must be able to properly supervise children and respond immediately in case of an emergency, including administering first aid as necessary Follows appropriate training and lead small group activities in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and recreational experiences Maintain a clean and orderly environment for children Enforces program rules and safety precautions Maintains child discipline at the site and discipline records while communicating effectively with parents/guardians Administers medication and maintains medical records and logs Communicates effectively with the staff members, children, parents, administrators, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities Models and maintains high ethical standards Must be able to safely drive a 15-passenger van and transport children to various locations daily Ensure all equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition. Enforces all department and site regulations May be required to lift up to heavy items Maintains attendance, discipline, injury records, and other reports as needed Maintains financial records on recreation software & collects payments Maintains discipline and injury records as necessary Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years or older Core Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Ability to communicate effectively with children and parents Basic skills in performing and teaching day camp or after school activities, sports, nature, and/or arts and crafts Ability to problem solve Ability to lead others K nowledge of a variety of recreational activities and the ability to convey knowledge into an organized activity Knowledge of CPR/AED first aid procedures Knowledge of childhood development Basic skills in performing and instruction such activities as arts and crafts, sports, games, and creative dramatics, etc. Ability to maintain discipline Ability to prepare and maintain reports Ability to motivate children Cash handling skills Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations Ability to meet deadlines Conditions of Employment Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) with reliable transportation to travel from site to site Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to obtain American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire Must be able to obtain Defensive Driving within 30 days of hire Must attend and successfully complete the City’s Van Training course as soon as possible Must complete cash handling certification with 6 months of employment Must be able to work January 4 – May 28, 2021 Must be available to work consistently Monday thru Friday from 2:15 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. and for holiday and spring break camps, teacher in-service days, and other Recreational Care special events and programs as needed on evenings and weekends Position will be approximately 20+ hours per week for the Afterschool Program and additional hours for Recreational care programs, camps, and Special Events held during daytime, evenings, and on weekends Must be available for various trainings during December 2020 Preferences: Preference will be given to individuals who have experience supervising part time employees Completion of one (1) year of college (prefer coursework emphasizing education, childhood development, or recreation studies) Previous experience in a camp or after school setting Six months of experience planning, coordinating, and implementing recreation programs for school age groups Knowledge of a variety of recreational day camp activities and the ability to convey that knowledge into an organized recreational activity Knowledge of childhood development Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The following describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.
