Seasonal Field Service Worker - SA3006 - P&R-PM-ATHLETICS (4) City of Denton Job Description Effective Date: 4/6/2005  Revision Date: 01/24/2008  Position ID: GA0012  Market Band: N/A  FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt   Title: Temporary Field Service Worker I  Department/Division: Parks and Recreation/Parks Maintenance  Reports to: Crew Leader    Definition: Responsible for assisting in the maintenance work for the City of Denton’s parks and public properties Essential Job Functions: Operates light equipment such as mowers, trash truck, and light trucks to perform various tasks Performs various duties using chain saws, weed-eaters, ditchers, and hand tools Inspects equipment, park structures and playgrounds for safety compliance Performs minor construction and park facilities Performs public service functions during storms and inclement weather such as ice and high water Inspects equipment before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and reports exceptional problems to the supervisor Plants, fertilizes, cultivates, and irrigates lawns, turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers; mows, trims, edges, and fertilizes lawns; and prunes and sprays trees and shrubs Sweeps and rakes leaves Removes litter from parks and cleans restrooms Helps support special events, weekends and after hours as scheduled Assembles special equipment for use by the public; installs signs, barriers, and parking bumpers Performs custodial and other related duties needed or assigned Ability to get along with customers and co-workers Weekend trash route and cleaning restrooms Regular and punctual attendance Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The following describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday. Other   Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: The essential functions of this position require the operation of various light equipment such as mowers, backhoes, bobcats, dump trucks, and loaders; utilizes chain saws, weed-eaters, ditchers and various hand tools; incumbent must wear hearing, respiratory (as needed) and eye protection. Environmental Factors: The essential functions of this position are performed primarily outside in all types of weather; incumbent is exposed to fumes, gas, dust and equipment noise and vibration while performing parks maintenance duties. Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency: Must be at least 18 years old Three months experience in parks maintenance, landscape, and/or field construction work Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must pass a physical examination Ability to work in all types of weather Ability to read instructions, blueprints, and operator and repair manuals Must be able to work on-call duty and be able to respond within 30 minutes Preferences: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing This job description is not an employment agreement, contract agreement, or contract.
