PURPOSE
The purpose of this specification is to provide the information necessary to allow contractors to bid on a contract for the installation of certain fiber optic installations for City
of Denton Traffic Operations, identified by (Traffic) in the remainder of this document. The work will be primarily performed by boring underground or open trench, using two, 2” PVC
conduits, with an average depth of 48” and a minimum ground coverage of 42”. If work is performed at or on Denton Municipal Electric structures, all compliance of DME procedures and
approvals shall be obtained by contractor. Projects anticipated for Fiber Optic cable installations are set to reside along City streets and State roads. This contract will be for
the labor, equipment, tools, supervision, bonds and insurance to complete installation of Fiber Optic cable. The contractor is expected to complete all work with a minimum of supervision.
Traffic Operations will provide all materials required for construction but will not provide supplies and materials necessary for operating the contractor’s equipment.
Approximately 11 miles of installed infrastructure is required for this contract per the City of Denton ITS Communication Network Plan Phase 1 A-E. Traffic anticipates future fiber conduit
installations over the next five years. These services will be utilized for these projects. The estimated expenditures for this contract will be approximately $900,000 for Phase 1
A-E, and for any other future fiber conduit installations for the term of this contract. While growth trends appear to be continuing, Traffic guarantees no minimum amount of construction
under any future contract.
The contract being sought by this invitation will not be an exclusive fiber optic services contract. City of Denton Traffic Operations reserves the right to enter into additional contracts
with other contractors for fiber optic construction when, according to its own evaluation, there is need. The following are examples of situations that might be considered reason for
seeking additional contracts:
