SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation, authorizing
the approval of Change Order No. 1 to the contract between the City of Denton and Pavecon Public Works
LP, for the construction of the South Bonnie Brae Street Widening and Improvements Phase 2/Vintage Blvd
Project for the City of Denton; providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date
(IFB 7118 – Change Order No. 1 in the not-to-exceed amount of $393,931.40 for a total contract award
aggregated to $12,032,254.80).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The South Bonnie Brae Street Phase II/Vintage Blvd Project consists of the construction of a four-lane divided
concrete roadway including a storm drain system, 5' sidewalks and 10' mixed-use trail. Change Order 1
includes changes required by TxDOT for connections at US377 and IH35W to increase rebar size & frequency,
additional striping & signage, and adjustments to the traffic signals. Also included are improvements in the
connection to Bonnie Brae Phase 1 providing continuous paving from Phase 2 ultimately avoiding additional
costs of temporary asphalt. The addition of drainage and paving work on Old Bonnie Brae north of Roselawn
(slide 3), is included to avoid disturbing an easement currently under construction by the North South Water
Main Phase 2 Project. This drainage work was designed in the Bonnie Brae Phase 3 roadway project. By
performing this work now, it will prevent duplicating easement area restoration efforts in both the NSWPH2
and BBPH3 projects and will prevent further resident disturbance with the future roadway project.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (Council, Boards, Commissions)
On November 19, 2019, City Council approved a contract with Pavecon Public Works LP, in the not-to-exceed
amount of $11,638,323.40 (Ordinance 19-2728).
In 2010, City Council approved a contract with Graham and associates for design of Bonnie Brae Phases 1-3.
In 2009, RTR funding was acquired for Bonnie Brae Phases 1-3.
RECOMMENDATION
Award Change Order No. 1 with Pavecon Public Works LP, for the Bonnie Brae Phase 2 project in the not-to-
exceed amount of $393,931.40, for a total contract award aggregated to $12,032,254.80.

These items/services will be funded from Engineering Account 350288444.1360.40100. Purchase Order
#191814 has already been entered into the Purchasing software system. The budgeted amount for this item is
$12,032,254.80.
