SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal cooperation,
authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Dobbs Tennis Courts, Inc., for the resurfacing of
outdoor concrete courts in select park locations for the Parks and Recreation Department; providing for the
expenditure of funds therefore; and providing an effective date (IFB 7471 – awarded to Dobbs Tennis
Courts, Inc., for one (1) year, with the option for two (2) additional one (1) year extensions, in the total
three (3) year not-to-exceed amount of $60,000).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The Parks and Recreation Department is proposing to update the City’s outdoor court inventory by
resurfacing courts to meet the current American Sports Builders Association guidelines for court regulation,
safety, and aesthetics. The outdoor courts identified to be resurfaced include: Denia Park multipurpose
court, Mack Park multipurpose court, Fred Moore Park basketball court, Southlakes Park basketball court,
Cross Timbers Park basketball court, Owsley basketball court, and North Lakes Park basketball court. The
industry recommendation to resurface outdoor courts is eight to twelve years depending on location and/or
other external stressors to the courts. These courts have exceeded the resurfacing timeframe recommended.
Invitation for Bids was sent to 571 prospective suppliers of this item. In addition, specifications were placed
on the Materials Management website for prospective suppliers to download and advertised in the local
newspaper. Two (2) bids meeting specifications were received. The lowest bid was received by Dobbs
Tennis Courts, Inc.
