AGENDA INFORMATION SHEET
DEPARTMENT: Procurement & Compliance
ACM: David Gaines
DATE: December 1, 2020
SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation,
authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Stryker Sales Corporation, through the National
Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) Contract # OK-SW-300, under the Texas Government
Code Chapters 271, for the purchase of medical equipment for the City of Denton Fire Department;
providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date (File 7500 – awarded to
Stryker Sales Corporation, in the five (5) year not-to-exceed amount of $1,000,000).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The Fire Department responds to approximately 10,000 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) calls per year.
During these calls, the department utilizes key pieces of medical equipment for basic and advanced life
support. Over the past several years, the department has evaluated equipment inventory to ensure uniformity
in responder training, safety, and patient care.
The department’s frontline apparatuses are furnished with medical equipment that is available through
Stryker Sales Corporation. Currently, all 11 ambulances (8 frontline and 3 reserve) include: automated
patient lifts, stretchers, and stair chairs to assist in patient transport with minimal lifting. All ambulances
also include automated cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices, defibrillators, and equipment to monitor
patient vitals during transport which transmits data directly to the hospital. In addition to ambulances all
frontline fire vehicles and various city facilities include automated external defibrillators, expanding the
number of opportunities for life-saving defibrillation.
Based on a historical spend and future projections the recommended NTE for this contract is $1,000,000
for a total potential five (5) year contract.
Pricing obtained through the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) has been
competitively bid and meets the statutory requirements of Texas Local Government Code 271.102.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On February 11, 2020, the City of Denton executed a Participating Addendum with Stryker Sales
Corporation, adding the City of Denton as a Participating City to purchase from the NASPO Price
Agreement, Number #OK-SW-300.
