I. GENERAL
These specifications cover polyvinyl chloride (PVC) conduit and associated fittings and accessories
for use by DME in underground electric distribution and communication systems. Conduit, fittings,
and accessories shall be suitable for direct-buried, concrete-encased, and exposed applications.
II. CONSTRUCTION
Conduit and fittings furnished under these specifications shall be smooth walled polyvinyl chloride
(PVC), schedule 40, manufactured in accordance with the latest revision of the following industry
standards; National Electric Code (NEC) Article 352, National Electrical Manufacturers Association
(NEMA), American National Standard Institute, American Society of Testing Materials,
Underwriters Laboratory. NOTE: Some sizes may also be requested as Schedule 80 as needed.
Conduit shall be rated for use with 90oC wiring and be sunlight resistant. Conduit material shall
comply to NEMA TC-2 (conduit), TC-3 (fittings - UL 514), and UL 651 (standard for rigid non-
metallic conduit).
Conduit shall generally be furnished in 20 foot lengths with integral belled ends that comply with
ASTM D-2672. NOTE: Some sizes may also be requested in 10 foot lengths.
Conduit and fittings shall be homogenous plastic material free from visible cracks, holes, burrs, and
foreign inclusions. The conduit bore shall be smooth and free of defects which could damage
conductors during installation.

Conduit and fittings shall be clearly marked with the manufacturer's name, type of conduit, and size
at intervals of two (2) feet or less. Any additional markings deemed necessary by the manufacturer is

permitted. The markings shall be legible and permanent. Where fitting size does not permit
marking, the packaging shall carry the designated information.
Sweeps and bends shall be marked with the bend radius and the degrees, i.e 18" R-30o to designate
eighteen (18) inch radius with thirty (30) degree bend.
Conduit and fittings shall be tested in accordance with the testing requirements defined in NEMA
TC-2, NEMA TC-3, UL 651, and UL 514B.
III. DEVIATIONS TO SPECIFICATIONS
Bidders quoting conduit, fittings, and accessories to this specification shall indicate any areas where
deviations are required by their design and shall provide sufficient information to permit full
evaluation of the proposed deviations. This data shall reference the appropriate section number and
be sent in letter form.
It is the responsibility of the supplier to assure compliance with all specifications and standards for
all conduit, fittings, and accessories delivered. This responsibility is not waived by acceptance of
delivery at the City's warehouse.
