SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation,
authorizing the City Manager, or their designee, to execute a contract with Caterpillar, Inc., through
Sourcewell Contract # 032119-CAT, for one (1) Backhoe Loader for the Wastewater Collections
Department; providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date (File 7683 –
awarded to Caterpillar, Inc., in the not-to-exceed amount of $109,364.18). The Public Utilities Board
recommends approval (4 - 0).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
This request is for the purchase of one (1) new Model 430 Caterpillar Backhoe Loader for the Wastewater
Collections Department.
This backhoe loader is a fleet replacement approved in the FY20/21 budget. The backhoe loader will replace
a 2011 model with an adjusted replacement date of 11/7/2021. Replacement criteria maintenance points are
6.1 with an accrued Lifetime to Date maintenance cost totaling more than $54,864, meeting the critical
recommended replacement criteria.
Quotes were obtained from Holt Cat and RDO Equipment Company, the preferred vendors for Backhoe
Loader construction equipment. Fleet recommends awarding the contract to the lowest bid provided by Holt
Caterpillar, Inc.
Fleet Services researched an all-electric backhoe as a sustainable option. This model currently has very
limited availability but will become an option for future consideration.
Pricing obtained through the Sourcewell Contract has been competitively bid and meets the statutory
requirements of Texas Local Government Code 271.102.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On May 24, 2021, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) recommended this item to the City Council for
consideration.
