SUBJECT
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation,
authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with W.W. Grainger, Inc., through the Omnia Partners
Cooperative Purchasing Network Contract Number 192163, for the acquisition of maintenance, repair,
operations (MRO) and industrial supplies including hand tools, personal safety equipment, and supplies
used by field personnel for the City of Denton; providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and
providing an effective date (File 7949 – awarded to W.W. Grainger, Inc. in the three (3) year not-to-exceed
amount of $1,200,000.00).
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The proposed contract will supply maintenance, repair, and operations supplies to various City departments.
The items include hand tools, personal safety equipment, and supplies such as paint, gloves, cleaning
supplies, street brooms, asphalt rakes, and batteries for tools used by field personnel in the execution of
their duties. These items are sold to the using departments through the City’s Warehouse, as well as the
vendor's online marketplace. The Water, Wastewater, Electric, Technology Services, Parks, and Fire
Departments have all utilized the online marketplace. Grainger provides one-stop shopping for a vast
selection of MRO and industrial supplies. The online marketplace offers a wide variety of manufacturers
and distributors, prepaid freight, same-day shipping, and 24-hour emergency support.
Grainger Commitment to the Community
In 2020, Grainger donated more than $41 million to nonprofit organizations in cash and product.
In Texas, Grainger donated more than $76,700 to charitable organizations such as the Harrington Cancer
and Health Foundation and the Houston Food Bank through the Grainger Matching Charitable Gifts
Program.
Since 2001, Grainger has donated more than $21 million in cash and product to the Red Cross and currently
serves as a $500,000 Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) member. Grainger is also a
sponsor of the Home Fire Campaign, donating more than 147,000 smoke alarms since 2014. Finally,
Grainger is a partner of its Missing Maps Project where team members use computers to identify buildings
and infrastructure in “unmapped” areas across the world to provide the Red Cross and emergency
responders with better access in times of disaster.

The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarship program supports students studying skilled trades, public
safety, or supply chain management. Half of all scholarships are offered to veterans of the U.S. Armed
Forces. The participating schools in Texas are Lee College, Lone Star College, and South Texas College.
Pricing obtained through the Omnia Partners Cooperative Purchasing Network has been competitively bid
and meets the statutory requirements of Texas Local Government Code 271.102.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On September 14, 2021, Council approved the interlocal agreement with Omnia Partners (Ordinance 21-
1842).
RECOMMENDATION
Award a contract with W.W. Grainger, Inc., for the acquisition of maintenance, repair, operations (MRO),
and industrial supplies including hand tools, personal safety equipment, and supplies used by field personnel
for the City of Denton, in a three (3) year not-to-exceed amount of $1,200,000.

SUSTAINABILITY
Grainger is the first industrial distributor to have Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
certified facilities and the first to be recognized by the EPA as a SmartWay Transport Partner.
Grainger offers more than 100,000 environmentally preferable products that help customers operate more
sustainable facilities by reducing energy consumption, conserving water, reducing waste, and improving
indoor air quality. In 2020, environmentally preferable products made up more than $710 million of
Grainger’s sales, a 5 percent increase from 2019.
ESTIMATED SCHEDULE OF PROJECT
This is a three (3) year contract. This Omnia contract expires on December 31, 2024.
FISCAL INFORMATION
These products and services will be funded through the using department’s budget on an as-needed basis.
In 2021, the City spent $383,753 annually for maintenance, repair, and operations supplies with Grainger.
The City will only pay for services rendered and is not obligated to pay the full contract amount unless
needed.
