STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
This action supports Key Focus Area: Enhance Infrastructure and Mobility.
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
The Denton Municipal Electric (DME) Metering Department has been using the Itron software and
handheld hardware devices since the late 1990s and the Itron Meter Data Management System (MDMS)
since 2010. In addition to MDMS, DME’s Metering Department also uses the Itron mobile application,
MVLT laptop application, Field Collection System (FCS), and the MV-90 application daily to read and
manage water meters and the Electric Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) type meters. The MDMS
software manages and stores the meter data necessary for billing customers as well as interval data for
reporting, analysis, and system planning purposes. The upgrade from version 8 of the MDMS to version 10
and the move from on-premise to a turn-key Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud solution will keep DME
current in the software application versions and ensure the availability of upgrades, software fixes, and
access to support resources.
