STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
This action supports Key Focus Area: Support Healthy and Safe Communities.
INFORMATION/BACKGROUND
Since 2018, the Parks and Recreation Department has employed Perry Weather lightning warning systems
across 13 distinct sites throughout the City of Denton. These sites include pools, athletic fields, dog parks,
and the Eureka playground. These systems are designed to monitor weather conditions and issue alerts using
air horns and strobes when lightning is detected within a 10-mile radius.
Prior to 2018, the department utilized a different brand for these alerts. However, these previous units were
found to be unreliable and costly to maintain. In 2018, the decision was made to transition to Perry Weather
due to the simplicity, versatility, and overall reliability of their equipment.
Pricing obtained through the Buy Board Cooperative Purchasing Network has been competitively bid and
meets the statutory requirements of Texas Local Government Code 271.102.
