STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT This action supports Key Focus Area: Enhance Infrastructure and Mobility. INFORMATION/BACKGROUND The goal of this project is to improve street lighting along US-380/University Drive from I-35E to Mayhill, enhancing safety and implementing new lighting standards set by Denton Municipal Electric (DME), as well as meeting the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) requirements, as US-380 is a State roadway. Engineering staff conducted a preliminary analysis, determining a high level of cost to install continuous street lights along the corridor, and presented the results to Council. City Council then directed staff to take the next steps of hiring an engineering consulting firm to conduct a feasibility and photometric study for the corridor. Those findings were presented to Council, and the project was chosen to be included in the 2019 Bond program - Street Lighting - for voter consideration. The US 380 Lighting Project has a total estimated cost of $3,502,799.99. This estimate includes a $3,335,999.99 total base bid amount and a contingency of $166,800.
